La familia del pintor (The painter's family) 1621-1622 (close up) by Jacob Jordaens 

After the year Rubens died, Jordaens advanced to the position of one of the most admired painters in Antwerp. In 1635-40, when Rubens was ill from Gout, Jordaens was commissioned to use Rubens' sketches, to complete existing works and obligations. Jordaens died of the "mysterious Antwerp disease", the sweating sickness ('zweetziekte') or polder fever ('polderkoorts') at the age of 85. Jordanes depicts the rheumatoid hand in his 17th century Dutch art work.  It shows swelling of the metacarpal-phalangeal and proximal interphalangeal joints.
